It was reported that Friday morning employees get a memo from Amazon that said them to delete the popular social media app TikTok from their smartphones. Later, it has been said by the company’s press office that the memo about TikTok was sent mistakenly. The press doesn’t provide any further explanation.
The mail which has sent to the worker from Amazon’s IT services department said that TikTok poses security risks. Still, the Amazon didn’t talk about any specifics. It was told to the entire worker to delete the app Friday and keep mobile access with email. It was also told that the TikTok could be accessed from a browser through a laptop where the mail has a title -Action required: Mandatory removal of TikTok by 10-Jul. The information was vague which couldn’t be the one to ignore.
Later on Friday afternoon, one short statement by a spokesperson has shown up with saying that the all TikTok removing thing was a mistake. Director of IT services of Amazon, Kellie Green sent an email Friday afternoon to employees with the title “Disregard TikTok email” which included a similar language as the spokesperson.
Recently, TikTok has encountered much scrutiny. It is owned and developed by Chinese tech company ByteDance which is already in the eye because of spying where India banned TikTok as well. These days Australia and the US are also considering blocking TikTok. A TikTok spokespersongives a statement Friday morning, “User security is of the utmost importance to TikTok,” “we are fully committed to respecting the privacy of our users, While Amazon did not communicate to us before sending their email, and we still do not understandtheir concerns, we welcome a dialogue so we can address any issues they may have and enable their team to continue participating in our community” again he said.
There are many other apps that do the same even a few apps like Facebook, Google Maps, and more but maybe because these are not Chinese-owned, don’t face scrutiny.
